Which images display in social posts

When you or someone else shares a link to your site on a social network like Facebook or Twitter, the post can automatically include an image. Clicking the image leads to the page linked in the post. The image suggested for a post depends on the type of content in the link and which images are available.

We help social networks automatically find images from your site based on the rules in this guide. For the best results, upload these images whenever possible:

If none of these images are available, the social network automatically suggests an image. Ultimately, the social network controls what appears in the post, not Squarespace.

Posts linking to your homepage

When sharing your homepage, the social network uses the first available image on this list:

Posts linking to a Regular Page

When sharing a Regular Page, the social network uses the first available image on this list:

Posts linking to a collection page

When sharing collection pages (an Album, Index, Event, Blog, Product, or Gallery Page), the social network uses the first available image on this list:
